In 1996 the Van Zant Park was created as a memorial of Ronnie Van Zant, lead singer of Florida rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd, that died along with other group band members and crew in a 1977 plane crash Gillsburg, Mississippi. The park funded by fans and family of the band and was built on Sandridge Road in Lake Asbury, Florida.
The park serves as an extraordinary outdoor gathering place for families to enjoy fishing ponds, disc golf, tennis courts and basketball courts – it’s a 90 acre recreational facility.
The park is great for kids as they have zip lines, two large playground areas and an obstacle course kids can train to become the next American Ninja.
